Barbora Mališová – The Frog

At the Viola Theater, Barbora exhibits a selection of paintings from three different thematic cycles she has painted in recent years. The cycle "Fishing" captures a poetic theme in the form of two images. The first is classical and depicts two fishers fishing from barges on the river, while the second is more symbolic in the form of two rods swaying calmly above the surface. The figures of fishers are intentionally left only in light silhouettes without detail, which is gently lost and at the same time emerge from the surrounding environment.

Barbora has also drawn inspiration from animal themes. At Viola, she exhibits three paintings: a portrait of a wolf, whose bust is placed in the lower part of an atypical, elongated format, with two trees in a non-specific space being painted above only in the form of some cyphers. In "Two at Lunch", two crayfish with distinctive claws are captured against each other across the entire format. The animals can only be perceived better from a greater distance. Barbora thus gently points to the mysterious inner world of animals we can approach but will never fully reveal.

These two cycles are complemented by smaller landscape formats that emerged during the Banat Symposium. The painter once again uses the method of interweaving individual surfaces by layering the painting with subtle and intense colour transitions. It thus brings secrets and space for dreaming in a cultured way to the light-flooded stylized landscapes.
